PRESS RELEASE:

MAPLE SHADE, NJ – Independent record label Unable Records has plunged head-long into the battle against lung cancer.  Following the death of label founder Mike Ransom’s father-in-law last December, the label dedicated itself to ensuring that some good would come out of the tragedy.  One hundred percent of the proceeds from the label’s latest release, “West from El Paso” by punk rock band Ransom Price, will be donated to the Lung Cancer Foundation of America.

On December 7th 2012, Bernard Price lost his year-long battle with lung cancer.  He was a loving father, doting grandfather, avid skier and bowler, and a retired logistics engineer.  He had never smoked, and was only 65 years old.

According to the Lung Cancer Foundation of America, Bernie’s case was not unusual.  In fact, according to their website, it is estimated that 60% of new lung cancer diagnoses will be in non-smokers.  It is also very shocking that lung cancer claims more lives than breast, prostate, colon, liver, kidney and melanoma cancers – combined.  It is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States, accounting for 15% of all cancer incidence, but 29% off all cancer deaths.  Yet lung cancer research receives only a tiny fraction of the available funding.  (Information provided by the Lung Cancer Foundation of America).

While Bernie was sick, those around him were not aware of the above statistics, they were only aware of the unfairness of the situation and the pain of having to say goodbye.  It was during this time that Mike Ransom, founder of Unable Records and member of punk band Ransom Price, wrote a song for his ailing father-in-law.  Bernie, who read the lyrics but never heard the music, loved the meaning and appreciated the sentiment.  After his death, his wife requested that the song be played at his memorial service.  “West from El Paso” was recorded on January 6th, 2013 and played at Bernie’s service on January 19th.  The song was released as a single on Unable Records this same day.

“West from El Paso” is available through UnableRecords.com, iTunes, CDBaby.com, Rhapsody, Amazon, and many other retailers.  Serving its purpose of keeping Bernie’s memory alive while also doing good for others, all proceeds from the sale of “West from El Paso” will be donated to the Lung Cancer Foundation of America.
